5.0 out of 5 stars Kettlebells and martial arts: the best of both worlds in one book, January 25, 2011
This review is from: The Martial Arts/Kettlebell Connection: Strength-Building Exercises for Superior Results (Paperback)
This is an extremely good book covering both kettlebells and martial arts. The book is endorsed by kettlebell master Pavel Tsatsouline as well as martial arts legends Dan Inosanto, Chai Sirusute, and Francis Fong. It covers both basic kettlebell exercises like the snatch and swing, along with variations. It includes exercise sets for different applicability in martial arts development, e.g. punching, kicking, etc. If you are in martial arts, kettlebells, or exercise in general, this would be a great purchase.

This review is from: The Martial Arts/Kettlebell Connection: Strength-Building Exercises for Superior Results (Paperback)
I have been a fan of using kettlebells for quite a few years. I have also reviewed numerous texts and DVDs on this topic; however, this is the first book I have read that deals specifically with how to use the kettlebells to improve your martial arts skill. This excellent text has 34 kettlebell exercises and 21 workout programs to improve your performance in the martial arts.

This book is printed on high quality paper and includes numerous clear color photographs showing the exercises and techniques. There are eight chapters. The first chapter explains movement, mind-set and balance. The second chapter deals with the foundational exercises. Additional exercises are shown in chapter three. Chapter four covers recovery factors, nutrition, and hydration, injury and combat sports. Advanced exercises are shown in chapter five. Chapter six deals with combining various exercises to make your workout program more interesting. How to combine your particular martial art with kettlebell exercises are covered in chapter seven. The last chapter is only one page and it contains some final thoughts on the subject.

There is also a list of recommended reading material and an exercise index. In conclusion, this book is for anyone who desires to improve their strength, power, coordination, balance and martial arts skills using the kettlebells.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but a bit misleading, June 2, 2011

This review is from: The Martial Arts/Kettlebell Connection: Strength-Building Exercises for Superior Results (Paperback)
I bought this because I thought it would be a KB book specifically for martial artists of all methodologies, but what I got was a very thorough book on KB exercises with a nod to MA community.

As a book for KB, it's excellent. Arguably more detailed and thorough than Pavel's "Enter the Kettlebell" with a broader horizon.

As a KB book specific to combat arts, not so much. However, the 4 star rating despite the unpleasant surprise should hopefully help you understand how awesome this book is as a step-by-step instructional for using KBs.

One final note - the copy I received is not 250 pages, but seemed complete.
